Cell Phone Ban Update

Cell Phone Ban:

On July 2, 2025, the Governor signed an executive order requiring all Oregon school districts to prohibit student use of personal electronic devices - including cell phones, smartwatches, and similar devices - during the regular school day. While many of our schools already have restrictions, this new statewide rule makes a clear ban mandatory for every district.

The order is intended to improve student learning, mental health, and safety by reducing distractions. Research shows frequent phone use can negatively impact academics and well-being, while bans have been shown to increase focus, positive behavior, and instructional time. For more details, please see the ODE guidance.

Beginning September 2, 2025 all students will be required to keep cell phones, smartwatches, and similar devices powered off and stored in backpacks or lockers during the school day. More information to follow as the state releases further guidance.
