Exciting Leadership Updates for Silver Falls School District
As we gear up for the new school year, our team has been hard at work preparing to support students, staff, and families across the district. Part of that preparation includes welcoming new leadership to our schools, and we’re excited to introduce three outstanding educators stepping into key roles.

Taryn Wold Named Principal at Robert Frost Elementary

We’re proud to announce that Taryn Wold has been selected as the new principal of Robert Frost Elementary School. Taryn is a dedicated and experienced educator with 20 years in the field, including 18 years as a classroom teacher and the past two years as principal at both Central Howell and Pratum Schools. Her approach is grounded in the belief that strong relationships are the foundation for learning, growth, and success.

“I believe schools should be warm, welcoming, and safe for every student,” Taryn shared. “My goal is to support and uplift both staff and students, to be present, listen, encourage, and help remove barriers so everyone can thrive.”

Taryn lives in Silverton with her family, including one daughter attending Robert Frost and another at Silverton Middle School. She is excited to continue serving the community she calls home and looks forward to building meaningful partnerships with families and staff.

Joseph Traeger Joins Silverton High School as Assistant Principal

We’re also thrilled to welcome Joseph “Joe” Traeger as the new Assistant Principal at Silverton High School. Joe brings 16 years of experience in education, having served as a teacher, coach, and administrator. Most recently, he served as Assistant Principal at Stayton High School, where he played a key role in developing career pathways, expanding student support systems, and leading school-wide culture and instructional initiatives.

Joe’s leadership philosophy is centered on trust, collaboration, and student voice.
“Leadership is founded on the basis of trust, and that is how I approach my work as a leader,” Joe shared. “I’m extremely excited to join the team at Silverton High School—it already feels like coming home.”

Joe lives in Mt. Angel with his wife and three young sons and brings with him a deep passion for supporting students both academically and personally.

Silver Falls Welcomes Rachel Ayers as New Scotts Mills Principal

We’re pleased to announce the appointment of Rachel Ayers as the new Principal of Scotts Mills Elementary School.

Rachel brings over 20 years of experience in education and a strong connection to the Silverton community. She will also continue supporting districtwide special education services as part of her role. A Silverton resident of more than 13 years, Ayers is deeply invested in the area.

For the past decade, Rachel has served in both the Mount Angel and Silver Falls School Districts in a wide range of roles, with a primary focus on special education. Her career has spanned preschool through post-high school education, where she has worked as a teacher, mentor, specialist, and leader. Beyond the classroom, Rachel is the founder of Silverton Mainstay, a local nonprofit dedicated to strengthening community connections.

“I am very excited to serve as the principal of Scotts Mills Elementary School and look forward to bringing my experience in education to this beautiful community,” said Ayers. “My focus on student growth extends to families, social and emotional well-being, creating and supporting neighbors and friends, and developing life skills alongside academics. Through relationships centered on respect, together we can help our youth achieve great success.”

Superintendent Kim Kellison shared her support for the appointment:
“Rachel is a compassionate, community-driven leader who brings a wealth of experience and a heart for rural education. Her deep roots in the Silverton area and her student-centered approach make her an excellent fit for Scotts Mills. We’re thrilled to welcome her into this role."
