Medical Leaves

Are you frequently missing work due to medical reasons, or do you anticipate a need for an extended leave?

Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and/or Oregon Family Leave Act (OFLA) may be an option for you.



  • Worked for employer for at least 180 days;
  • Have worked an average of at least 25 hours per week for 180 days immediately preceding the leave (excluding parental leave).


  • Worked for employer for at least 12 months;
  • Have at least 1,250 hours of service for the employer during the 12 month period immediately preceding the leave.

Who/What can I take a medical leave for?

  • Own serious health condition*
  • To care for someone with a serious health condition* (Spouse/Domestic Partner, Son/Daughter, Mother/Father, Grandparent/Grandchild)
  • Parental Leave/Pregnancy Disability
  • Taking custody or Placement of an Adopted or Foster Child
  • Sick Child Leave* (OFLA only)
  • Extended Bereavement (OFLA only)

*Medical Certification must be provided.

Important Notes

  • You may take up to 12 weeks (60 days) of job-protected time off for a qualifying event.
  • FMLA & OFLA are considered unpaid leaves, but we will use your available contractual leaves to keep you in a paid status.

  • You must apply for leave at least 30 days in advance of needing it, unless in the event of an emergency.
