Silver Falls School District today announces the upcoming departure of Steve Nielsen, Director of Finance & Operations, who has accepted a position with the Oregon Charter Academy. Mr. Nielsen has been an integral part of the District Leadership Team, contributing not only to the financial and operational health of the district, but directly in the day-to-day decisions guiding the district.
His dedication and expertise have been invaluable in maintaining the fiscal integrity and operational efficiency of our schools, especially during the uncertain economic times during and following the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Steve has served SFSD with distinction through the toughest era in the history of public education. Many senior leaders possess technical skills. However, very few leaders have the ability to see through complex issues, and focus on what really matters – in our case, our students,” said Scott Drue, Superintendent. “Steve sets the standard for high-quality, student-centered leadership. He will be sincerely missed, and we wish him all the best in his new adventure. I know I can speak for all when I say that we are all better as a result of working with him.”
The district will soon initiate a comprehensive process to find a suitable replacement for the Director of Finance position. We are committed to a thorough and transparent search to identify a candidate who will uphold the high standards set by Mr. Nielsen and continue to drive our district forward.
Steve will remain with the district through mid-March, and the district’s finance and operations will continue to be managed by our capable team, ensuring no disruption in services. We remain dedicated to providing the best educational environment and support for our students, staff, and the community.
We invite the community to join us in thanking Steve Nielsen for his service to Silver Falls School District and in wishing him success in his future endeavors.
