Good Afternoon Silver Falls Staff & Families,

Due to the “Red Flag” Warning issued by the National Weather Service, all SFSD schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday, September 9th.  The forecast includes a combination of high temperatures, low humidity and high winds, resulting in extreme wildfire risk throughout the region. Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) are planned and will impact several areas within our school district. Many of our students, families, and staff will be impacted. In addition to schools being closed tomorrow, all district-hosted athletic events and activities are canceled on Friday and Saturday.

By announcing this closure in advance, we allow those potentially impacted by power outages and fire risks to make plans without worrying about school attendance. We also anticipate that many of our staff members will be impacted and unable to report to work as they monitor and manage their individual situations.

We know that many within our community suffered devastating impacts from the fires in 2020. What we learned from that situation is that we cannot be too safe or use too much caution in preparing for these events.

Our number one responsibility as a school district is to ensure the safety of our staff and students. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Stay Safe,

Scott Drue
Superintendent
