Silver Falls School District has selected Ms. Katie Beckett as the new principal for Mark Twain Elementary School. Ms. Beckett replaces Mr. Greg Kaatz, who left Mark Twain Elementary earlier this Summer. Beckett’s selection followed a rigorous process of a writing assessment, a case study analysis presentation, town hall sessions with staff members and members of the community, and multiple interviews with school & district leaders.
“Katie’s knowledge of standards-based instructional models, and successfully leading implementation efforts is impressive,” says SFSD Superintendent Scott Drue. “She really distinguished herself throughout the selection process, among other very talented candidates. She is the right instructional leader, at the right time, to join the Silver Falls team.”
Beckett has over 20 years of experience in education. She began her career in David Douglas School District working as an elementary Title I Reading Specialist, before eventually taking a district-level role as K-12 Title I and ELA Coordinator. She joins SFSD from the Tigard/Tualatin School District, where she served as a Literacy Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA).
“I am extremely honored to become part of the Silver Falls school district community, where the vision and focus is clearly high-quality instruction for the success of all students,” says Beckett.
Beckett takes the reins at Mark Twain Elementary in its first year following the reconfiguration from a K-2 to a K-5 elementary school. She is one of four new permanent principals hired by Silver Falls School District to begin their work for the 2021-22 school year. Others include Mr. Sione Thompson at Silverton High School, Ms. Mandy Pack at Robert Frost Elementary School, and Ms. Melissa Linder at Silver Crest School.
