Dear Silver Falls Community,

We need your help!

As we plan for all students to be in school every day beginning September 7, we are looking for 15 new full-time school bus drivers to serve our students.

As with many districts throughout the state and the nation, we have a severe shortage of school bus drivers. We need your helpto build a roster of reliable, exceptional drivers from our community. Applicants with a CDL or school bus driving experience are great, but any individual who can pass the background check, and would be capable of working with children would be welcome.

Our transportation provider, Durham School Services, offers a starting wage of $22 per hour, paid training, and a signing bonus of $2,000 for new drivers who obtain their CDL by end of class, and $3,000 for credentialed drivers with all endorsements. Despite these facts, and just as with many other sectors in the service industry, open positions remain unfilled.

Driving a school bus is a rewarding option for anyone who enjoys working with kids and providing an essential service to families. If you know anyone (or yourself!) who may be interested, please encourage them to reach out to SFSD Administrator Kevin Palmer, at palmer_kevin@silverfalls.k12.or.us. Applicants may also call our local Durham School Services office directly at 503-873-3721 or stop by any weekday between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.

Beginning next Tuesday July 20, and continuing each Tuesday through August 17, Durham will hold Open House hiring events on site at the bus yard, 807 Jefferson St. in Silverton. Anyone interested can stop by anytime between 9:00am and 4:00pm to learn more about becoming a school bus driver in our district. Staff will be on hand to share important information, answer questions, and help with the application process.

Thanks for your help!
