Good afternoon, Silver Falls Families.

We know many of you are still in the process of putting your lives back together following evacuation or displacement due to the wildfires and their effects. Our thoughts are with those who are still displaced or otherwise facing long-term impacts from these fires. Tomorrow we’ll have some updates for you as we once more start thinking about the return to school for our students. For today, we’d like to share some news and resources related to recovery and supporting our children and families as they process this event.

For those with students in need of immediate counseling, we invite you to contact your school directly. Silver Falls School District counselors stand ready to assist students experiencing trauma related to this disaster. If you can’t reach anyone at your school, please contact the Silver Falls School District Office directly at (503) 873-5303.

In the event your child needs additional trauma screening, we can connect you to other resources in our community.

We’re also announcing Silverton Strong — a virtual support meeting for our community, next Wednesday, September 23rd, from 7-8pm.

This event is jointly hosted by Silver Falls School District, Marion County Youth & Family Crisis, the Willamette Education Service District, and Trillium Family Services. These experts will provide our community with information about supporting our students in the aftermath of this potentially traumatic and certainly unsettling event. More information about this meeting, including a link to the meeting, will be released in the coming days. We invite you to join us for this very special event.
