We’re pleased to share that the Oregon Department of Education has extended the no-cost meal program available to all children ages 1-18 through December 31st. This means that all students, district-wide, are eligible for no-cost school meals until that date, regardless of family income. Complete details are below.

When: This program will launch on the first day of school: Monday, September 14th, and will run through December 31st, 2020.

What: No-cost meals for all children ages 1-18. Breakfast will be provided for the next day when lunches are picked up.

Where: The following district school sites will serve meals – pick up food at whichever location is most convenient for your family.

  • Mark Twain, Robert Frost, Silver Crest, Butte Creek, and Victor Point, from 11:00 to Noon every school day.
  • Silverton High School and Scotts Mills from 11:30 to 12:30 every school day.

How: Children need not be present to participate. Simply visit one of the sites listed above during the appropriate time, tell the meal service staff how many students you are feeding, and you will receive one meal kit (containing both a lunch for that day and a breakfast for the next morning) per child.

In this time of economic uncertainty for so many in our community, we encourage all who would benefit from this program to please take full advantage of these no-cost meals.

A: Yes! All students ages 1-18 are eligible to receive no-cost meals.

Q: What happens after December 31st?
A: At this point, we would roll into standard meal service prices, with only those students who are eligible for free and reduced lunch receiving meals at no cost. If this situation changes, we’ll let you know.

Q: I’ve heard there is new, expanded eligibility for free and reduced lunch in the State of Oregon. Is that true? How can I apply for that program?
A: Yes, this is true — many more families in our district qualify for this program based on these new guidelines. You can see a complete breakdown of those guidelines on this document. Q: What about meal delivery like in the Spring? Is that an option?
A: We are exploring options for meal delivery in certain circumstances, but have nothing to announce at this time.
