• This information reflects acceptable lead testing results (based upon EPA standards) from all sources at Silverton High School.

For a full report, see this file: SHS Lead Testing Report 11-7-16

  • Results indicate acceptable lead testing results at Silverton Middle School with the exception of three sinks and one fountain.  These include sinks in class/workrooms 24/25 and the drinking fountain in the silver wing hallway (north of the gym).  Sinks have been posted with “hand washing only” and “non-drinkable” signs.  The fountain has been shut off.  Plans for replacement of all fixtures are being developed.  Retesting for lead in water will occur at that time.

  • Update September 1st: Re-testing of water from the drinking fountain in room 13 at Mark Twain Elementary School has been completed. The results at this fountain show a lead level of .0163 mg/l, below the allowable EPA limit of .020 mg/l.

Silver Falls School District is testing for lead in water at all of its schools.   The school district owns and operates public water systems at the following schools – Butte Creek, Silver Crest, Victor Point, Evergreen, Pratum, Central Howell and Bethany Charter.  These water systems are closely monitored and all testing, including lead testing, is completed at the required intervals.    The lead testing results at each of these sites are within the acceptable threshold of <20 ppb as established by the Oregon Health Authority.  These results can be found at the following web site – https://yourwater.oregon.gov/

The cities of Scotts Mills and Silverton provide public water to each school in their city limits (Scotts Mills School, Mark Twain Elementary, Robert Frost School, Silverton Middle School and Silverton High School).  These municipalities conduct regular and routine testing of school supply water as required by State and Federal authorities for municipal water systems.  These results can also be found at the following web site – https://yourwater.oregon.gov/

In addition, the school district is completing lead in water testing at multiple locations of each school site within the cities of Scotts Mills and Silverton.  Waterlab Corporation of Salem is completing these tests.   Results for Scotts Mills School, Mark Twain Elementary and Robert Frost School can be found at the following link: Results — SM, MT, RF — 2016. With one exception, all testing results at these sites are within the acceptable threshold of <20 ppb as established by the Oregon Health Authority.  The testing results obtained from a faucet in Room 13 at Mark Twain Elementary exceeded the minimum threshold.  The fixture and plumbing lines in this room have been replaced and follow up testing is occurring.  This faucet has been turned off pending the results of the new test.

Testing of water at Silverton Middle School and Silverton High School will occur by mid-September and results posted once received.  A large portion of the water plumbing and fixtures at Silverton Middle School have been replaced during renovation of the school.

Any questions about water testing can be directed to Andy Bellando, Superintendent.
